It’s Either Fun or Dangerous

To whom it may concern,

Whoever you are I am reaching out to, might be someone who is afraid to walk in the dark at night, or someone who has no choice but to walk alone in the dark, or someone who’s just intrigued by what this letter may be, we have all been afraid several times in our lives. We encounter and experience fears that sometimes develop into something worse. Trying to absolve the fear from within, we tried to explore its roots and see them lurking in the dark. The fear could be anything depending on the perspective. It might be a person, a ghost, or just the darkness itself.

Reading some articles related to walking at night reveals that it actually improves digestion and is even good for the soul. Walking at night is not without risk, but with the right knowledge and preparation, it can be a fascinating new experience. However, this anxiety-inducing activity might go south and possibly bring forth danger, mostly on unlit pavements. I personally experienced the joy of taking a peaceful stroll at night, but I also saw the bad side of it. Being followed is not really a good feeling. The suspicious person’s eyes piercing your back that even just the sight of them through your peripheral vision brings goosebumps is enough to cause a nightmare-fueled night. Well, I am still alive, but realizing what could have happened, it’s not worth it. I should have known better, and so do you. There are also people who have no choice but to go through this horror. To those brave souls who survived it, I hope you heal from the dread it brought you. Your safety should never be compromised.

Most of the time we are forced to survive unlit streets to arrive home and feel safe. Sometimes, we crave darkness maybe because we cannot see and be seen. Whichever it is that fuels our endeavors, I hope we will feel secure in the end. The government is supposed to create an environment that is free from fear and harm. We can start by making the streets safer with improved lighting and surveillance, but we are still far behind. We cannot endanger our lives by doing something we have no choice but to do, nor can we endanger our well-being for the sake of feeling. I hope our future can hear our advocacies for the greater good and supplement better decisions for a healthy environment. Hoping is not bad, but making it happen isn’t bad either.

To whom it may concern, I hope you are
